While I applaud Showtime’s choice of a historical subject for a new series, so that perhaps—PERHAPS—viewers MIGHT be inspired to research a period in history they might not know much about and learn more about it...

HENRY VIII DID NOT LOOK ANYTHING LIKE JONATHAN RHYS MEYERS. Not even a little bit.

I can hear the gears turning and some people saying, "But the show takes place when he was younger, and the painting is of him in middle age..." Allright, I’ll give you that. However...

Even taking into account the fact that the artists may have been stylizing a tad, there is no way that JRM looks even remotely like ol’ Henery.

I know why you did it, Hollywood. Because if you had cast someone who actually resembled Henery, no one would watch. You had to cast a hot, young male in the lead to reel in the viewers to make this show successful. It’s been going on since you’ve been making historical pictures. It’s just the way we humans work, and you’re simply being marketing savvy. I understand that.

But man, couldn’t you just have cast someone with brown eyes, at the very least? Wasn’t Ioan Gruffudd available?
